MCX Project Codenames

Software codenames are fun to refer to compared to numeral version numbers. In some cases, we decide a codename at the start of a new development cycle; sometimes, we decide the name at the time when we prepare for the public release. For every package, the codenames are decided based on a theme, for example, MMC codenames are mostly snacks names, and MCX codenames are mostly from physics terms. If you have a fun codename to suggest for our future releases, feel free to let us know. If we have more interesting codenames to choose from, we will do a vote.

1. MCX Codenames

MCX codenames are mostly terminologies from physics (except Ether Dome - which is a place). The first letter of each codename follows an alphabetic order.

3. MCX-CL Codenames

MCX-CL codenames follow the convention of MCX codenames - that is, the names are technology terms with the initial letter in alphabetic order. The first public release of MCX-CL (v2018) synchronized with the Dark-matter release of MCX, so it starts with a letter "D".

4. Fun fact

In case you haven't noticed, all official MCX package acronyms are Roman numerals, they can be decoded as

Package Name Decimal numbers
MCX M + C + X = 1110
MMC M + M + C = 2100
MCXCL M + C + XC + L= 1240
MMCL (OpenCL MMC-merged to mmc) M + M + C + L = 2150
MMCIII (mmc-trinity) M + M + C + 3xI = 2103
